The American Kennel Club or AKC is the registry that we predominantly use. Their website contains information on different breeds, various dog events, and advice for responsible dog ownership. We register all of our puppies with the AKC and often compete in events sanctioned by the AKC.

The Golden Retriever Club of America or GRCA is the national breed club for the golden retriever. Their website has information on the breed's history, an in-depth guide to the breed standard, health-related news, and other resources. 

The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals, often referred to as the OFA, is the primary health testing database in the United States. Their website has disease statistics, health testing results, and health surveys.

What should you look for when searching for a breeder? One essential factor in obtaining a dog that will live a long, healthy life is ensuring that their parents have passed their health testing. The GRCA recommends that breeders have their dog's hips, elbows, eyes, and hearts tested.

Many might think that structure has no importance since their dog will be a family pet and nothing more. However, the proper structure ensures that a dog can function in the intended way. 

What age should you spay or neuter your puppy? For many years, that question was always answered with something along the lines of "as soon as possible." However, studies have begun to show that that advice does not always hold true. While there is no clear-cut answer, it is advised to evaluate the risks versus the rewards of spaying or neutering your dog at what age.

Numerous events are open to golden retrievers. When you think of a dog event, you probably think of a dog show as you've seen on TV. However, there is a world of dog events that aren't conformation shows. The American Kennel Club (AKC) sanctions thousands of events around the country, many of which are held in relaxed environments that are a great place to learn about handling and training your dog.

The United Kennel Club (UKC) offers a variety of opportunities for golden retrievers to participate in.  Some of their events are similar to those sanctioned by the AKC, but UKC has several events that are unique to their organization. UKC events include conformation, hunt tests, obedience, dock diving, and shed hunting.
